Everette “Max” Rice

Max Rice, 94. Oblong, IL passed away on Saturday December 14, 2019 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL.

He was born in Hardinville, IL on May 3, 1925 and was the son of Everette R. and Millie F. (Sholders) Rice. On August 14, 1947 he married Wanda Dillman and they were married 71 years until her death on September 2, 2018.

Max was a rural Mail Carrier for over 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Oblong High School Class of 1943 and later received a Bachelor’s Degree from Vincennes University in Vincennes, IN. Max served in WWII in the United Sates Army  from September 1943 till his Honorable Discharge in April 1946. Max was a member of the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932 Ste. Marie, IL and a Life Member of the Robinson Moose Lodge #1369. He enjoyed boating on the Ohio River.

He is survived by a son Michael Rice, Robinson, IL; two grandchildren Jay Dee Rice, Stoy, IL and Kimberly and Clayton Basham, Mattoon, IL; two Great grandchildren Hunter and Hayden Basham, Mattoon, IL; brother Paul Rice, Oblong, IL; several nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law Judy Rice, Robinson, IL.

Preceding Max in death were his parents; wife; two brothers Lowell and Richard L. Rice; and a sister Marion Murley.

It was Max’s wish to be cremated with no visitation or service. Cremation rites will be accorded. Internment of cremated remains will be next to his wife in Mound Cemetery, Jasper County, IL.

The family requests that an expression of sympathy may be shown by a contribution to the Oil Field Museum in Oblong, IL with contributions being mailed to the Pulliam Funeral Home P.O.
